Dr. Pam Cuevas grew up in Derby, Kansas; just south of Wichita.  Her love of animals was grown on the family farm in the southeast corner of Kansas.  There she helped her grandfather with the farm animals.  It was also on the farm that she first tried to help an injured animal (baby rabbit).  The attempt was not successful, but she did start helping to rehabilitate the local wildlife around Derby.  Due to these activities she says "My parents were never the same."

Other influences on her choice of career were her personal heroes Dr. Mark Hutton and Dr. Hires Gage.  Dr. Hutton gave her advise that she still follows to this day and Dr. Gage advised her during the transition from one career to another.

After graduating from high school, Dr. Cuevas persued a degree in medical technology from Wichita State University, graduating in 1984.  At that time, she and her husband moved to Kansas City.  They worked as medical technologists in K.C.-area hospitals until 1988 when Dr. Cuevas started at Kansas State University.  She recieved her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1995 after many adventures.

After graduating, Dr. Cuevas and her family moved to Houston and then Denver.  It was in Denver that she developed a passion for cats.  "I fell in love with their unique personalities, independent natures and the mental stimulation of solving difficult medical puzzles, especially in the area of feline diabetes.  I also think that the cat has made me a better veterinarian by making me consider a wider range of possibilities."

After two more moves related to her husband's career, Dr. Cuevas moved to the Chicago area.  Having spent time expanding her skills and gaining experience (and not wanting to move again), Dr. Cuevas decided to open her own clinic within her community and dedicate it to the care of the cat thoughout its lifetime.

Beyond the professional degrees, Dr. Cuevas is a member of

  • Chicago Veterinary Medical Association
  • Illinois Veterinary Medical Association
  • American Association of Feline Practitioners
  • American Animal Hospital Association, and
  • American Veterinary Medical Association

At home, Dr. Cuevas has one shorthair cat.  Stripe was rescued as a kitten from a floating log during the flood of 1993.  At the clinic, Parker is the other feline love.  Parker is approximately 6 years old and was adopted from CatNap from the Heart.  Outside of work, Dr. Cuevas enjoys cooking, hiking, cycling, swimming, and needlecrafts.
